Adoption is more than a legal process; it is an act of unconditional love, a testament to the resilience of the human heart. Each adoption story is woven with joy, hope, and often, the bittersweet beauty of waiting. As we celebrate love this month that included Valentine's Day, we take special time to celebrate the families who have opened their hearts to adoption, embodying the true meaning of love.
For Lillie Starnes, one of our clients, the journey to adoption was filled with uncertainty, but it was also a journey of deep gratitude and trust: "I initially harbored doubts about the process related to our case, but those concerns were promptly alleviated. Every part of the adoption was handled with such care and professionalism... We will forever be grateful for being part of such a special time in our lives." Tim and Michelle also know the deep emotions of adoption, the fear, the hope, and the ultimate joy of welcoming a child into their family: "We can’t thank Lowe Dreesen Miller enough for making this adoption happen. I recall entering, filled with fear at the prospect of losing Micah. But we were encouraged every step of the way, through every challenge—even the shutdown of the courts. And yet, we were still granted the adoption. Thank you for the love and support." For some, adoption is the culmination of years of longing. It is a love story written in the wait. As Pattie shared: "It took us many long, painful years of disappointment and setbacks to get here. But at last, our child carries his last name, and I have peace of mind. Ephesians 1:16: ‘I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.’" As the saying goes, “Where there is great love, there are always miracles.” People often describe adoption as a courageous step, embracing the unknown in return for the deepest love conceivable. It is proof that love is not bound by biology but by the willingness to open one's heart and home. David Lowe of Lowe Dreesen Miller felt blessed to be part of the process for Pattie and her family. Adoption is not just about finding a child for a family; it is about finding a family for a child. As one adoptive parent shared, “The moment I met you, I knew you were meant to be mine. I may not have carried you in my womb, but I carry you in my heart forever.” These words capture the essence of what makes adoption extraordinary—love that knows no limits, no restrictions, no conditions.
There is beauty in the selflessness of birth mothers, who make the courageous decision to place their child into the arms of another, believing that love is expansive and capable of reaching beyond boundaries. As one quote expresses, “Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone, but still miraculously my own.” Love makes a family, and adoption is love personified.
Waiting is an unavoidable part of adoption, and while it can be painful, it is a period filled with expectation and faith. “Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.” Every adoptive parent knows the anticipation, the longing, and the silent prayers whispered each night. “I’m in love with a child I haven’t yet met.” This feeling is shared by countless waiting families, whose love for their child begins long before the first embrace. For many, adoption is an answer to a prayer. “For this child we have prayed, and God has granted us.” The journey is not always easy, and there are moments when it feels like the road is too long, the obstacles too great. But “The pain that you’ve been feeling can’t compare to the joy that’s coming.” Love is always worth the wait. Adoption is an act of courage, not just for adoptive parents but for birth mothers as well. “I chose adoption for my baby not because I didn’t want her, but because I love her.” Birth mothers give a part of themselves, a sacrifice rooted in love, to ensure their child’s future. And for every adoptive family, there is gratitude beyond words for the life they have been given the privilege to love. This Valentine's Day and every day, we celebrate those miracles—the families, the children, and the love that binds them forever. Love is patient, love is brave, and in the journey of adoption, love always finds a way home. At Lowe Dreesen Miller, we are honored and blessed to be involved in so many adoptions over the years.
